The placement communication process is straightforward.
Students complete Expressions of Interest (EOIs) which go into a central database, a 'pool' of student talent. Host Agencies (rural and regional businesses, non-profit organisations, government agencies) also complete EOIs, and when we receive their EOI, we go into the student 'pool' and look for appropriate CVs. We then contact students to tell them a little about the potential role we are lining them up with, and to see if they are happy for us to send out their CV.
Usually we send 3 Student CVs and the Host Agency will then tell us they want to interview Student A, B or C, (sometimes all three) and we arrange a teleconference, (at no cost to students or host agencies) most often via Skype. Usually, once we get to a teleconference stage, the placement goes ahead.
The illustration below shows how the placement process is designed - a simple, six-step process.

Step 1: Students and Businesses Complete Expressions of Interest (EOIs) online or via flyers/handouts |
![]() |
EOI Information is sent to central database. |
Step 2: EOIs are matched in database |
For example: Does the Business vacancy match students' study/time of vacancy/recompense?. Where "Yes" proceed to Step 3, if "No" student's EOI remains in the database. |
Step 3: Dialogue between student and business (teleconference or internet meetings), hosted by The Brolga Project |
Agenda topics:
If there is mutual agreement, proceed to Step 4; if not, EOI remains in database. (At this point, if applicable, the Business’ $200+GST administration fee becomes payable – refundable if either party cancels placement. NB: There is no fee to students or businesses on the MNC. |
Step 4: Placement |
Students work in the business under normal working conditions. During the placement, businesses are encouraged to introduce the student to local places of interest or into social networks, encouraging the student to experience the rural/regional lifestyle. |
Step 5: Review |
At the end of the placement, students and businesses review the position, identifying areas of mutual satisfaction and/or improvement and if there’s opportunity for further employment. |
Step 6: Return to position after graduation, and/or for vacation work |
A reminder ~ the purpose of The Brolga Project is to give students an opportunity to experience life/work in the regions, and to encourage them to return to the placement business at the completion of their study. |
