Providing University Students with Work Experience Opportunities in Rural and Regional Australia

The Brolga Project is working with these universities…but students, you can still send an Expression of Interest even if your uni isn't here.

We will be starting communication with more universities soon, and hope to welcome many more on board...

The Queensland University of Technology Careers and Employment has listed the Brolga Project on our online system that provides opportunities to all of our students. It is worthwhile providing our students with a number of options when they are thinking about workplace experience while they are studying, especially if it is related to their discipline. Dr Alan McAlpine, Manager, Careers & Employment, Queensland University of Technology.

The University of New England encourages all students to explore career options and gain professional experience during the course of their university studies, through a formal work placement program. The majority of our students study and live off campus, and the Brolga Project, by providing a datab ase of potential host employers in regional locations, greatly assists students in their search for an appropriate placement. We look forward to developing our relationship with the Brolga Project, to the mutual advantage of our students and the professions in regional and rural Australia. Airlie Bell, Careers Counsellor, Student Assist - Career Development, University of New England

James Cook University values work experience opportunities for all of our students to assist in the development of graduate attributes. Work experience placements provide our students with the opportunity to gain industry related experience and transferable work skills for future and graduate employment. The Brolga Project will assist our students by facilitating placement opportunities they may have previously been unaware of and contribute to rural and regional sustainability, which is a JCU key focus. Dr. Gillian S.R. Walls, Graduate and Student Employment Officer, James Cook University

The University of Southern Queensland  encourages students to participate in work experience and industry placement internships, to enhance understanding about their chosen industry and develop ‘job ready’ skills. Some students undertake placements as part of the degree, while others voluntarily participate in unpaid work experience to develop employability skills. As many USQ students study via distance education, the Brolga Project provides an avenue for these students to connect with organisations and industry placements in a broad range of regional locations. Rebecca Vale-Boddington, Industry Learning Coordinator, University of Southern Queensland.

CQUniversity's Careers and Employment Service understands the importance of students completing work experience as part of their degree studies. All work experience students participate in allows the student to confirm their chosen career path while also providing the students with skills to market themselves effectively during the recruitment phase. With a large number of CQUniversity's students studying at regional universities and externally throughout Australia the Brolga Project will allow these students to locate required work placements in their current rural settings which will in turn allow them to gain the greatest benefit from the work experience. Raleigh Wallace, BTeach, GDM., Coordinator, Careers and Employment, CQUniversity
